Organizational Overview

Sanscon Construction is primarily engaged in civil infrastructure (i.e. City of Toronto) projects including work on roads, sidewalks, curbs, TTC tracks, etc. The company consists of approximately 70 staff (8 office staff and the rest site workers).

Job Description

  • Supports civil infrastructure projects both on-site and in the office
  • Attends meetings with all stakeholders, contributing as appropriate
  • Involved from pre-construction throughout project completion and closeout
  • Required to be at a pre-determined job site daily
  • Transportation (own) required to job site daily
  • Reports to Project Manager and Operations Manager who will monitor daily and overall responsibilities
  • Organize office operations and procedures
  • Maintain the project’s Daily Job Diary
  • Review and validate contract quantities
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and/or Experience Required

  • Current/Newly graduated CET student
  • Must have surveying knowledge/experience

Job Summary

Sanscon Construction Ltd. requires an energetic, motivated and results-driven working Construction Site Supervisor with experience in road construction around the Greater Toronto area.

Summary

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day to day management of the construction site, while working together with the Project Manager to ensure completion of projects within scope and timeline. This position reports to the Project Manager & Operations Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and schedule work
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with Project Manager and sub-contractors
  • Coordinate daily activities of the crew.
  • Ensure the efficient use of labor, equipment and materials and provide regular reporting to the Project Manager
  • Assist in the resolution of design issues, change requests, material defects and equipment problems with Project Manager, Municipal inspectors, and Engineers
  • Review and verify paperwork such as daily logs, quantities, inspection logs, delivery receipts, vehicle inspection, etc.
  • Ensure high standards of safe work practices and compliance with Sanscon Construction Ltd. health and safety program and policies
  • Identify, investigate, correct and document potential environmental and safety problems

Qualifications

  • College diploma in a construction-related field an asset
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory/managerial role
  • Strong management, delegation, planning and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of local, provincial and federal health and safety regulations
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Computer skills an asset
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning
  • Able to work well under pressure

OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Health & Safety Manager is responsible to manage all aspects of Health and Safety, company-wide. The Health and Safety Manager will be the primary point of contact for all employees regarding health, safety and WSIB matters.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Undergraduate university degree/college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or related studies)
  • JHSC Certification and First Aid training

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a safety role within a Construction company specializing in Road building and Municipal construction.
  • Excellent knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations in addition to any local regulations/legislation that govern Health and Safety compliance
  • Strong knowledge of WHMIS
  • Previous experience working with Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
  • Experience with coaching, training, and leading both group and individual health and safety training sessions
  • Proven experience with accident investigation/prevention
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Exhibits good judgement and ability to handle highly sensitive information
  • Proficient in Word/Excel/Outlook

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development and implementation of company health and safety policies, procedures, emergency response plans and programs for Sanscon Construction Ltd.
  • Actively participate and lead the Joint Health and Safety committee(s).
  • Arrange monthly workplace inspections for all Sanscon Construction job site locations, and follow-up for any corrective actions identified.
  • Conduct accident investigations, conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures.
  • Report respond to and investigate health and safety complaints/hazard identification.
  • Along with Operations Manager, assess and manage workers’ compensation cases/return to work process.
  • Conduct health and safety training programs as required.
  • Keep up-to-date on all Ontario OHSA and legislative updates and changes to ensure compliance.
  • Other duties as required by the Operations Manager.
